Dr. AntheaNwandu.
I am Dr. Anthea Nwandu - a dual board-certified internist and lifestyle medicine physician, Blue Zones certified physician, public health professional, and medical educator. My work bridges clinical medicine, prevention, and systems-level thinking, with a focus on restoring dignity, accountability, patient safety and excellence in healthcare. At the bedside and in the clinic, I care for patients navigating complex acute and chronic illness. Beyond my clinical practice I speak, teach, and write about the future of medicine - particularly the role of lifestyle medicine interventions, health systems reform, and physician education in preventing disease and improving outcomes.
"My journey in medicine has always been rooted in service—service to patients, families, communities, and future generations of physicians."
Hospitalist Care
Navigating complex illnesses at the bedside through compassionate partnership.
Dual Board Certification
Internal and Lifestyle Medicine: Addressing root causes with clinical rigor.
Blue Zones Certified
Certified in the evidence-based principles of the world's longest-lived communities.
Clinical Excellence & Leadership
I am board-certified in Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, with a deep belief that the future of healthcare lies in prevention, behavior change, and whole-person care. I integrate evidence-based lifestyle interventions into clinical care to address the root causes of chronic lifestyle-related disease. My approach centers on whole-person medicine - nutrition, movement, sleep, stress resilience, social connection, and purpose - grounded in rigorous science and practical implementation. As a physician, I believe healing happens not only through prescriptions and procedures, but through partnership, education, and compassionate presence.
Global Health Systems & Policy
I hold a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. For over 12 years, I served in global health with the University of Maryland Institute of Human Virology, supporting PEPFAR-funded programs focused on HIV care and health systems strengthening.
These experiences reinforced the importance of policy, infrastructure, and accountability in determining health outcomes across diverse clinical settings.
Educational Innovation & Mentorship
Education is central to my professional identity. As a medical educator and mentor, I am dedicated to shaping the next generation of physicians.
"I believe how we teach medicine matters as much as what we teach. My background in Instructional Systems Design allows me to translate complex concepts into clear, impactful learning experiences."
Leadership, Advocacy & Public Voice
Throughout my career, I have served in leadership roles in academic medicine, alumni organizations, and professional communities. As a speaker and media contributor, I bring a thoughtful, evidence-based, and human-centered perspective to conversations about health, medicine, and society.

"My work is grounded in one guiding principle: health is not merely the absence of disease, but the presence of structure, dignity, and opportunity."

Beyond the White Coat
"Beyond medicine, I am a devoted wife, mother and proud grandmother. Family continually reminds me that health is generational - and that prevention, resilience, and vitality are not abstract concepts, but deeply personal commitments. I am a lifelong learner, traveler, and believer in the power of connection. My work is shaped by personal experiences, loss, resilience, and a deep devotion to family and community. Everything I do - clinically, publicly, and personally - is grounded in one principle: health is not just the absence of disease, but the presence of purpose, equity, and hope."
